We also provide the spaces for Groveland library, the Book Nook, Friends of Groveland Library, and a community meeting space. We are an all-volunteer staff and subsist uniquely on donations and two annual fund-raising events.

We are also looking for donations for our Silent Auction! If you have something to donate, we will give you a 501(c)3 in-kind receipt for its value. Please drop it by the museum or call and we can pick it up. Our Board members will be soliciting the community vendors. Please be as generous as you can.

TOURNAMENT TEE SELECTION

Many of our tournaments allow players to select what tees they will play from. It is important that players sign up for the correct tees. Any player can play from the Gold tees, regardless of their age or index, if they so choose. But only players that qualify may play from the Purple/Green tees. To qualify a player must be 70, or older, or have an index of 18.7, or higher. It is very difficult for the Golf Shop to make tee changes at the last minute. Any player that plays from incorrect tees risks disqualification. Typically, one team member will sign up a 4-man or 2-man team, so it is imperative that that team member sign up their team from the correct tees.

WEBSITE TOURNAMENT SIGN UP

Please continue to use the website, pmlmgc.com, to sign up and pay for tournaments. Using the website for tournament sign up and payment makes it easier for the club and the Golf Shop to manage tournaments. Go to www.pmlmgc.com to see the tournament schedule.

JOIN THE MEN’S GOLF CLUB

Any male persons who are current property owners, their siblings, sons, nephews, sons-in-law, and PMLA employees are eligible to join the men’s golf club. Go to pmlmgc.com and click on the button, Join the Club, to see the many benefits of club membership, as well as the ability to sign up on line. Applications are also available in the Golf Shop, or you can contact our Handicap/Membership Chair, Ted Toffey. Email Ted at handicap@pmlmgc.com, if you have any questions about club membership, or, if you’re a current member, your NCGA handicap index.

Pine Needlers QUILTS GUILD

SANDY SMITH

Yahoo Happy 4th of July everyone...Have a wonderful day with family and friends. Summer is so much fun, enjoy!

Pine Needlers Quilt Guild meets the third Tuesday morning of each month, under the Library from 10:00 to approximately noon. We do have a meet and greet at 9:30 before the meeting to chit chat a bit before we get down to business. After the meeting if you bring a project (with or without a sewing machine) we can sew together until 3. Lots of laughs and giggles and new things to learn.

Sometime when you are downtown drop by the Library. The quilts are up for the summer, and they look spectacular. Thank you, Sharon Kenyon and to all who helped take down and put up. A big special thank you to Stilts.

The Installation of new officers in the park last month was great fun, and lunch was wonderful. The May Bee projects were creative and imaginative. Thank you one and all.

A couple of reminders for the future...The Quilt Show in October will be here before you know it. Have you decided what you are going to show? Next, Advent projects will be on November's calendar.

See you on the 15th under the Library at 10. If you are not a quilter but are interested in the many things we do, come by on Tuesday, you are most welcome.

If you have any questions, call President Judi @ 650 245-1439 or V.P. Michele @ 209 962-4327.

By the way check out Quails Nest Summer Class Schedule. Take a friend and enjoy a class.

PML PICKLEBALL CLUB

PAM RODGERS

CALLING ALL Pickleball players of all ages and skill levels.

We are so fortunate to have 6 great courts found just next to the Golf Course and Country Club. The Pickleball Club plays Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 am – 11 am in the summer and adjusts to slightly later as the weather and sunset changes. Pickleball skill levels are rated between a 1.0 for beginners to 6.0 for the very best professional players. The M,W,F players are generally 1.0 - 3.0. On the weekends you will see some more experienced, competitive play and it’s fun to even come out and watch. A handful of PML pickleball players even dabble in some tournament play outside of our area.

So, IF this interests you… COME OUT TO PLAY >>>>>>>>

and see what this crazy, growing sport is all about. IF you don’t have a paddle, you can pick one up for about $25 at any sporting good store or Amazon. As your game improves you will look to a $75-$150 paddle. It’s an inexpensive sport, incredibly social, great for your body with the stretching, bending, cardio and great for the mind trying to keep track of the darn score and who is serving. It really is the hardest part of the game that and understanding the rules about when you can be in the “Kitchen”. Remembering 2:2:1 or 5:3: 2. is nearly impossible to keep track of when you are having so much fun and laughing with your friends.

Let’s set the record straight: getting older doesn’t mean slowing down—it means playing smarter. Pickleball is the perfect sport for proving that. And if you’re over 50, you’ve already got the edge in experience, decision-making, and court awareness. The trick is learning how to use that edge.

Whether you’re just getting serious about your game or already climbing your age- bracket ladder, this guide will help you upgrade your play with movement, mindset, and the one shot that changes everything.

The One Shot That Changes Everything: Return of Serve

Let’s start with the biggest game-changer: the return of serve. It’s not flashy. It’s not fun to practice. But for 50+ players, it’s absolutely essential—and often overlooked.

Why It Matters:

1. You hit it every game—so improving it has an immediate payoff.

2. It gives you time to reach the Non-Volley Zone (NVZ), which is harder as we age.

3. It stops your opponent’s attack before it starts.

How to Hit It Better

  • Go deep: Aim 3–4 feet from the baseline. Short returns give your opponents license to attack.

  • Add net clearance: Don’t flirt with the tape. Higher clears = deeper returns with less risk.

  • Use energy, not power: Let your motion carry the shot—no need to blast it.

MY OPINION: You have often heard me brag about PML Pickleball Club throwing the best parties. So, if you are someone who likes to have fun and laugh. Or needs to move a bit more in your life and get into “better shape”. Or you like socializing with a group of active, healthy, fun folks outdoors 12 months of the year… Then this is the Club for you. Email, text or call and just:

COME OUT AND PLAY!

ROOFBB “CARING HEARTS-HELPING OTHERS”

Audrey Prouse

The ROOFBB organization has been a steady supporter of the Groveland community since 1994. Over the years, ROOFBB has donated more than $400,000 to schools, local groups, charities, and neighbors in need. The organization’s mission centers around three key areas: Neighbors in Need, Community Projects, and Local Schools. We help the community by offering resources where they are needed most. One program that holds a special place in our heart is the high school senior scholarships. ROOFBB is especially proud to support students who aspire to continue their education and pursue their goals. This year, the organization was honored to award four individual scholarships to graduating seniors. We handed out the scholarship certificates at Tioga High School’s graduation ceremony. We extended our best wishes to these students as they embark on the next chapter of their academic and personal journeys!

2025 Groveland SummerFest brought joy, food, and community spirit to Groveland Father’s Day weekend. Attendees enjoyed a delicious BBQ meal, incredible vendor booths, amazing prizes at both the Silent Auction and the raffle, fun times in the Kids Zone, and so much more! Audrey Prouse, the ROOFFBB President/SummerFest Coordinator praised the collaboration and unity, “What a great way to spend the day! So much hard work goes into something like this for months. Then the big day arrives and everyone has a good time and it’s all worth it! I want to give a huge shout out to all the volunteers! There were over 35 of us working SummerFest. I am so appreciative of everyone who helped ROOFBB put on SummerFest– THANK YOU!”

Since supporting our local schools is a vital part of The ROOFBB mission, it’s such a pleasure working with Tenaya Elementary and Tioga High School and having incredible community members cook BBQ, help with safety, and volunteer all day long makes this event truly a community festival. With incredible vendors, fun games, and delicious food, SummerFest proved to be more than a fundraiser—it was a celebration of community pride and togetherness!

If you’re looking for a fun, fulfilling way to give back to the community of Groveland, we’d love to have you! To learn more, visit us online on Instagram, Facebook, or Nextdoor. Why not apply for membership through our website: https://charity.roofbb.org/join.

2025 Wine Tasting Cruise a wonderful success!

HARRIET CODEGLIA

THE 19TH ANNUAL (WITH A YEAR OFF FOR COVID) WINE TASTING CRUISE WAS HELD MAY 17. WHAT A PERFECT DAY FOR A BOAT RIDE ON THE LAKE, A TASTE OF WINE, AND APPETIZERS FROM LOCAL PROVIDERS. THE WEATHER WAS EXCELLENT, THE PARTICIPANTS VERY HAPPY, AND THE VOLUNTEERS WERE WONDERFUL. ALL SEVEN WINERIES PROVIDED EXCELLENT WINES.

This unique event is the chief fundraiser for STCHS and again in 2025, it did not disappoint.

STCHS thanks the generous homeowners who allow us to use their homes, the gallant boat drivers and first mates (including the two PML taxi drivers), the wine pourers, food preparers and servers, the volunteer “dock workers” who offer a steady hand so no one takes an unplanned swim, the loaders and packers of supplies and the fabulous cookie bakers. MarVal gives us a wonderful discount, as does the Meat Market. Thank you too to Pine Mountain Lake for allowing us to use the jetty at the marina, and the boat taxis. Our sponsors for the event are Helping Hands, Visit Tuolumne County, and Black Oak Casino. A special thank you goes to the wonderful wineries who donate their delicious wines. We truly cannot do this event without ALL of you.

The ultimate thank you goes to the participants who taste the wine, eat the snacks, make new friends, and join us year after year to support the STCHS programs and projects.

Let’s do this again – Saturday, May 16, 2026! Save the date!

FRIENDS OF THE LAKE POKER RUN

VIRGINIA RICHMOND

Friends of the Lake held a fun event in June with dinner at the marina followed by a poker run on boats around the lake. We traveled around the lake and picked up our cards at four different docks. Back at the marina, we collected a fifth card and “played” our hands. It was wonderful to enjoy a beautiful evening, lots of delicious food, and a fun lake activity.

Our thanks to Friends of the Lake board members Larry and Catherine Santa Maria for organizing the event.

Special thanks to our boat drivers Don Wallace, Catherine Santa Maria, Jim Cureton, Al Rojas, Paul Gibson and Bob Enz. The lucky winners with the best hands had their pick of prizes. First place went to Cindy Blaine, second place Ed Sullivan, and third place Al Rojas.

Friends of the Lake is a PML social club focused on the safe and equitable use of the lake. We have fun lake-centered events all summer. You can join at any of our events, or send your name and email address with $20 annual family dues to Friends of the Lake, PO Box 591, Groveland.
