Community Services Unit in Groveland

Community ImageThe Groveland branch of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Community Services Unit (CSU) is now open in Groveland to serve the communities in Groveland and Big Oak Flat areas. The office is at 12720 Par Court in Groveland, adjacent to the Pine Mountain Lake golf course. The phone number is (209) 962-6974. The office is open on Wednesdays, from 10 am to 2 pm.

During office hours you can order sign form horizontal or sign form vertical, request vacation checks, special event requests and get fingerprinted for job applications.

CSU is a civilian branch of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office. The ability of the Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement services over more than 2,000 square miles of territory is severely limited, and it has become more difficult with the current budget limitations. The increased need for services requires increased personnel and added expenditure of public funds, which are not always available.

A partial answer is the utilization of the volunteer pool of talent and experience in the communities. This is accomplished through the Community Assistance Patrol (CAP), which performs a multitude of duties that may include serving subpoenas, vacation checks, handicap parking enforcement, motorist assists, victim witness transport, crime scene security, property bookings, etc.

CAP members receive special training in order to drive a CAP patrol car. The CSU also has offices in Sonora, Jamestown, Tuolumne City and Twain Harte.

It is the goal of the CSU to work with the Sheriff’s Office to help make Tuolumne County a safer and enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

Some events that the CSU helps out in our community are the ’49er Parade and Chili Cook-Off, Halloween night, and traffic control for the Christmas Basket Project on pick up day.

The Groveland branch is understaffed and could use your help. Would you please consider volunteering? Prior law enforcement experience is not necessary. For information, contact Mike Cunningham at (209) 962-8955.
